Alluvia smiles at her sister, "I wouldn't be very good at politics if I just let you know I was good at it. Letting people think what you want them to think is a key to non-shadowy and shadowy politics." Alluvia pulls out a piece of parchment and a pen, "Here are the basics... this will take a long time to learn, so don't worry if you don't understand for awhile. Just learn each little thing I teach you, eventually it will make sense overall as a whole."

Anglerond chuckles while he buries his nose into Key's neck and just sniffles around contentedly.

Key pats Anglerond’s thigh under the table and takes the quill from Alluvian. Her expression is serious and ready to learn.
“So I think I get rule number one, which is to keep ones mouth shut. So your adding to that by saying I should say as little as possible when I do speak?” She opens her neck up a bit to give Anglerond better access.

She pats her sister's hand, "It isn't that you say little, it is that you say... or don't say what you want the person in front of you to hear. Someone good at politics will need to be able to work quickly, under time constraints and have a poker face. Nestrim exceeds almost anyone I know with this. However, I think for now we should just aim at what the social norms and rules are. I want you to know I have no problem with it, but..."
She leans over and smacks Anglerond on the shoulder, resulting in him sitting up and stopping the increased sniffing and kissing that was happening, "That is probably not good during an official royal court meeting. Although you will learn when it is a good thing for people to see it." She gives her system another pat on the hand, "Like I said though, you can continue here."

She looks to Anglerond with an apologetic look and tirns back to her sister. She sits up straight and starts to write as she talks.
“So I need to learn how to lie with a straight face?” Her face grows worried.
“This is going to be hard...”

She shakes her head "You misunderstand, you don't lie. Nestrim has never uttered a lie in my hearing with anything. The key is to realize what to say to be truthful, but maybe not in a way the person you are talking to would think of. The best politicians don't lie, it is why I thought Nestrim was perfect as king, he would keep everyone together. That is what we will do with you."
She looks a little sad at the thought of being Queen.

Key is thoughtful.
“So I would be using what they want to get what I want? Im a bit relieved I don’t have to lie. Im horrible at it.” She watches Alluvian for a moment.
“Do you not want to be queen?” She reaches out to take her hand.

She takes Key's hand, shrugs and her face takes a more adult set to it "My family needs someone to step forward, I am the most suited and can help the family to most at this point. Nestrim is much happier now, and in the end it isn't any different for me."

She smiles, a bit sad.
“There is always a choice. It makes me wonder why Nestrim did what he did. Speaking of..” she turns to Anglerond.
“You mentioned that you had been thinking of leaving the Rangers. Why would you leave after so many years?” She lifts any eyebrow that says clearly ‘The whole truth’.
“Before you begin please don’t tell me it was for me. That can’t be all of it. We haven’t known each other that long.”

Anglerond snuffles in her hair for a few moments, enjoying her smell when he stops. "You are the place I found worth it to go to, butyou are right, I have been looking for a way out of the Rangers. To be honest, it is a long extended story that involves politics and our Order's slow change into something political in its own right. It wasn't like this when I joined more than 200 years ago, or maybe I am just getting old."

She narrows her eyes for a moment, the smile softening what would normally be a harsh gesture. Then she flutters her eyelashes and says in the sweetest voice she has:
“Oh, its a story I would love to hear.” Her face goes back to something a bit more normal.
“But really, I would like to learn a bit more of the Rangers history and by extension yours.”

Anglerond is silent for a few moments, he looks at her and his eyes seem to grow old in front of her. As quickly as she saw that it was gone and his eyes were back to normal, and a humorous smile crosses his face. "I promise to tell you about that, all of it. Just not all at once, and I think at the moment not at all. There are a lot of things in the air currently that I haven't gotten my feet under me fully for. I need time to work through leaving the Rangers. I do promise that you will know."
His smile becomes a smirk, "Besides, I need something entertaining to tell you over the next three or four years before I die of old age, wouldn't want you to get bored."

Key smiles and shakes her head when he says he’s only going to live a few more years.
“You’ve got more than a few more years left in you. At least you had better. I think you’ll be surprised at how good you feel once Luke heals you.” She leans in and kisses him.
“As for the story, tell me when your ready. I can wait.”
