Talking to Wolsey this morning about the food for game next week I just realized I have probably not been clear about the City of Kokand and its atmosphere. That is completely my fault. I know in my head what Constantinople was like during the Crusades and what cities on the Silk Road were like, and I thought just a couple of references would cover it, but I realized that was incorrect.
The City of Kokand is not a typical medieval city. There are some of the traditional fantasy tropes in the tavern and restaurant/food vendor areas. You can of course in some places get rabbit or mutton, and have a traditional "fantasy game" meal. That is not the case for the majority of the city. The city is on the crossroads between the Middle East, China and India meaning it is colorful, vibrant, loud and definitely exotic in sights, smells and tastes (and not always for the bad).
Much of the food in Kokand is based around different Middle Eastern fares, Indian and various Chinese and South East Asian cultures. Curry, paneer, hummus, tahini, falafel, Turkish Coffee, wantons, dumplings, chow main, spring rolls, millet dishes, spicy thai style dishes, etc. are incredibly common and unless your characters go out of your way to avoid it, will be a mainstay when you are home.
I will add to the website to be more clear and I will strive when you are in the various locals to see if my descriptions can be more inviting of the ambience of where you are at.
